Star Alliance is known in the industry for being the least flexible and harshest alliance when it comes to allowing its members to enter into agreements with airlines from the other two alliances. And obviously, the Star Alliance policy has pretty much the handwriting of Lufthansa. But miracles even happen at Star. A rather unthinkable FFP partnership between a Star member and oneworld member Cathay Pacific will be implemented on 26 April, although mutually limited to a number of routes only. But only nasty people would relate that suddenly discovered flexibility at Star to the fact that the Star partner in question is nobody else than the Lufthansa Group itself… It will though be interesting to see what will happen the day Ethiopian Airlines decides to cooperate with Qatar Airways
